WHAT
TrueWest is an Alberta based dance invitaional that encompasses competition, convention and community into a weekend for dancers to learn and grow.

WHERE
TrueWest’s inaugural event will take place within the city limits of Calgary — one day expanding into other cities and provinces in Western Canada.

WHEN
TrueWest will return to Calgary for March 7th and 8th 2026. Our official schedule will be released soon. The goal is to align the competition with the university school season and take place before the competition season starts.

WHO
TrueWest was created for 18+ dancers who have spent the better part of their lives training. We welcome dancers associated with post-secondary teams, amateur dance groups and individuals to register.
OUR STORY
TrueWest was created with a vision to fill a gap in Calgary’s dance scene—one that provides adult dancers with the opportunities they deserve. In March 2024, founders Kelsea and Emma crossed paths and quickly realized the lack of competitive platforms for adult dancers in the city. Inspired by Kelsea’s memories from her time on the Queens Dance Team at university, the two set out to create Calgary’s first 18+ dance competition. Less than a year later, TrueWest was born, aiming to transform the experience of adult dancers by offering both challenge and camaraderie.
TrueWest is committed to alleviating the stress and discomfort of solo performances, celebrating each dancer’s unique journey. Our competition is designed to offer a supportive environment where dancers can thrive and explore their talents in ways that are engaging, educational, and inspirational. By building a dynamic and supportive community, we hope to set a new standard for dance competitions, especially for university dance teams who deserve the respect and recognition of their institutions.
